Basic values and policies for initiatives towards circular economy

In order to effectively utilize limited resources and realize a recycle-based society, FP Corporation(FPCO) is working on the 3Rs concept in the “Basic Act on Establishing a Sound Material-Cycle Society” and on reducing the use of plastics by designing for reduction at the design stage.

Scheme and Technology

In response to our customers' needs to further reduce the use of plastic in the market, FPCO has been conducting research on product weight reduction utilizing PSP (polystyrene paper) foaming technology in collaboration with SEKISUI KASEI CO., LTD(SEKISUI KASEI).

Previously, it was difficult to mold 'large containers like sushi-oke requiring a tight fit with a lid' and 'containers requiring sharp shapes' with foamed PS sheets. However, FPCO has been able to productize them with the new low foamed PS sheet mentioned above.

This 'new low-foamed PS container' is a combination of SEKISUI KASEI's foaming technology and our proprietary mold design technology based on double-sided vacuum molding. While maintaining the same strength and sharp shape as our non-foamed containers (HIPS), it reduces the use of plastic by up to 60% compared to non-foamed containers.
