Basic values and policies for initiatives towards circular economy
In 1994, we established the Comet Circle. The Comet Circle expresses the greater picture of our environmental impact reduction scheme, which includes not only the scope of the Ricoh Group as a manufacturer and sales company but also the entire lifecycle of our products, including upstream and downstream of our business activities. In order to achieve a sustainable society in the future without depleting the earth’s limited resources, it is necessary to realize a “recycling-oriented society” where the greatest effects are generated with the least amount of resources and energy. Ricoh supports the realization of a recycling-oriented society through our efforts to efficiently circulate resources at each of the three stages: 1.when products are manufactured, 2.when products and services are used by customers, and 3.after products are used.
Market opportunities and our strengths in circular business
Since 1993, the Ricoh Group has been promoting 3R design based on the Design Policy for End-of-Life. We have established a system for collecting, reusing, and recycling MFP & Pinter globally, and are expanding our product and parts recycling business. (Sales: approx. 27 billion JPY in 2020)
Our Strengths are developing new materials (PLAiR, DSSC) that applied the technologies cultivated in the development of imaging equipment and collaborative activities taking advantage of the customer service skills that forms the basis for sales and service of imaging equipment.

Implementation system
The ESG Committee, chaired by the CEO, has been established to continuously discuss medium-and long-term issues in the ESG field at the management level and to improve the management quality of the Group as a whole and to respond to the expectations and requests of stakeholders.
The committee is held quarterly to examine and discuss sustainability issues across the board.
In addition, ESG's initiatives and executive compensation are linked, and virgin material usage rates has been set as one of the company-wide ESG targets and incorporated into the formula for calculating bonuses for the executive officers in charge.
A cross-functional working group has been established for multiple related divisions to promote 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) businesses.
