Basic values and policies for initiatives towards circular economy
FUJIFILM Business Innovation established our company-wide recycling policy "promote the reuse of resources for infinite Zero- Landfill" in 1995, under which we have been collecting products used by customers for recycling and reuse. In 1998, we began to use recycled plastic made from our products that we collected, which was an industry first. In 2008, we expanded our activities by establishing a site for reuse and recycling in Suzhou, China.
In addition, the entire Fujifilm Group is working on resource recycling as the Group’s CSR plan released in 2017, the Sustainable Value Plan 2030, positions "promote recycling of resources" as one of the priority initiatives.
Market opportunities and our strengths in circular business
FUJIFILM Business Innovation have built a "closed-loop system," which is a circular production system that examines the entire product lifecycle, from the product planning, development, and manufacturing stages to disposal. This system promotes the reuse and recycle of used products and the Company has developed new technologies to support this initiative.
In addition, "Managed Print Services" which the company has been providing since 2004, contributes to reducing resource consumption by installing remanufactured products to customers’ sites that are guaranteed to be the same quality and reliability as newly manufactured products.
Indices and targets
The Fujifilm Group aims to reduce the amount of waste generated by the Fujifilm Group by 30% by FY2030 (compared to the FY2013 level). We also disclose the amount of resources that were reduced through parts reuse.
Organizational structure for implementing these initiatives
Under the reuse/recycle design guidelines, the R&D department is working to standardize designs so that parts can be reused in successor products regardless of product generations. Under the leadership of a dedicated organization for promoting reuse and recycling, the manufacturing division works on reusing and recycling equipment.
