Daiwa Can Company
Our Company's Policy on a Circular Economy
Our environmental philosophy prioritizes the preservation of the global environment above all else. It aims to harmonize corporate activities with environmental considerations while continuing to grow as a container manufacturer. We are committed to actively addressing environmental issues and contributing to society. Among our environmental philosophy, we have identified "realizing a resource-circulating society" as one of our material priorities. We will work towards resource circulation throughout the entire supply chain by developing and proposing products and services that contribute to resource recycling and through collaboration with our business partners.
Market Opportunities and Company Strengths in a Circular Economy
Our main products, including metal cans, plastic tubes, and pump containers, hold a high market share and provide us with opportunities to engage with a wide range of customers. Regarding metal cans, even before environmental issues gained significant attention, we promoted can recycling through industry associations and community activities. As a result, Japan's metal can recycling rate is now among the highest in the world. Building on this achievement, we will work to establish new systems and drive technological innovation, particularly in collaboration with the entire supply chain, to realize resource circulation for plastic containers as well.
Setting Indicators and Targets
Toward realizing a resource-circulating society, we have set two primary goals: ① reducing the use of fossil-based plastics, and ② improving the recycling rate of metal cans. For goal ①, we aim to achieve a recycled plastic material usage rate of over 16% by 2030. For goal ②, we have set a target of increasing the steel can recycling rate to over 93% and the aluminum can recycling rate to over 92% by 2025.
Implementation Structure
Our environmental policies are planned and promoted by the Environmental Department, which operates directly under the president. Recognizing plastic resource circulation as a critical issue, we have established a project team within the Technical Division that is dedicated to addressing this challenge, and the project members are actively driving these initiatives forward.
Achieving Our Goals
To achieve the goals of ① reducing fossil-based plastics and ② increasing the recycling rate of metal cans, we will focus on purchasing recycled plastic materials, reusing scrap generated during manufacturing, developing biomass-based containers, and designing containers from materials suitable for recycling.
