Komatsu's Global Component Recycling Initiatives (Global Reman Business)

[Company / organization] Komatsu Ltd.

Time started, etc.

To provide customers worldwide with Reman (* 1) components, Komatsu has established two global bases, one in Indonesia and one in Chile.

Here we introduce Komatsu Indonesia Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "KI"). KI is an overseas subsidiary of Komatsu, which was established in 1982 and manufactures and sells construction and mining machinery, castings, and reman components (recycled parts).KI handles components such as engines, transmission, and hydraulic cylinders for large-sized construction equipment from 2007.

Technology and business model

Construction and mining machines are machines that work in harsh environments. In order to reuse the component in the future, it is necessary to know its usage status; Komatsu's reman business begins when a customer purchases a new machine. KI accepts components returned from customers in the Americas, Europe, Africa, and other regions through local subsidiaries in each region, and through technical support from Japan, disassembles, evaluates, reassembles, tests, etc., and reman on a part-by-part basis.Recycled parts and components are of the same quality as those produced at Japanese plants. We are also making constant efforts to expand reused parts by applying new technologies such as metal spray.

These remanufactured parts and reassembled components circulate many times by providing them to customers repeatedly through local subsidiaries and distributors.Komatsu's Reman Business continues to grow as a cyclical business that contributes to the environment and reduces customer life cycle costs.

* 1: Reman is an abbreviation for "remanufacturing" which means "regeneration".
