Manufacturing recycled materials by melting inorganic waste such as incinerator ash

[Company / organization] DOWA ECO-SYSTEM CO., LTD.

Time started

Meltec Co., Ltd. started operation in 1999, and Meltec Iwaki Co., Ltd. started operation in 2018.

Technology and business model

DOWA ECO-SYSTEM's subsidiaries, Meltec and Meltec Iwaki recycle inorganic waste such as incinerator ash, which is usually landfilled, by the coke bed type melting furnace. The companies manufacture artificial stone, which is a civil engineering material, and molten metal, which contains precious metals such as gold, as recycled resources. The artificial stone material manufactured by the companies is characterized by having the same hardness and durability as natural stone by crystallizing it over time by air cooling. The artificial stone material of Meltec is also certified as a recycled product of Tochigi Prefecture (Tochigi eco-friendly product, product name: Mel Ace 🄬).

In addition, Meltec plans to start operating a pretreatment facility from 2021 and expand the acceptance and recycling of fly ash, which generally have a limited amount of recycling due to the large amount of salts.

Achievements and goals

FY2020 results (total of Meltec and Meltec Iwaki)

Melting amount of incinerator ash: Approximately 67 thousands tons

Sales volume of artificial stone: Approximately 39 thousands tons

Sales volume of Molten metal: Approximately 1 thousand tons
