Seven & i Group PET Bottle Circulation Initiatives
[Company / organization] Seven & i Holdings Co., Ltd.
The Seven & i Group has been installing plastic bottle reverse bending machines in our stores since 2012.
The plastic bottles are collected and reduced its volume size (whether compressed or crushed); the internal sensor rejects any bottles with foreign objects. These functions allow the bottles to be recycled as high-quality resources and reduce the number of deliveries by transporting large quantities of bottles from the stores to the recycling plants in one trip. Some of the collected plastic bottles are recycled back into private brand plastic bottles, clothing, product packaging materials, etc.
As of the end of February 2022, a total of 2,098 reverse bending machines have been installed at Seven-Eleven Japan, Ito-Yokado, York-Benimaru, and York. With the cooperation of our customers, we were able to collect and recycle approximately 400 million plastic bottles in FY2021. The loop of plastic recycling is steadily expanding with the collaborative actions with our customers, suppliers, and local governments.
